Dissection of the genetic basis of wheat ionome is crucial for understanding the physiological and biochemical processes underlying mineral accumulation in seeds, as well as for efficient crop breeding. Most of the elements essential for plants are metals stored in seeds as chelate complexes with phytic acid or sulfur‐containing compounds. We assume that the involvement of phosphorus and sulfur in metal chelation is the reason for strong phenotypic correlations within ionome. Adjustment of element concentrations for the effect of variation in phosphorus and sulfur seed content resulted in drastic change of phenotypic correlations between the elements. The genetic architecture of wheat grain ionome was characterized by quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis using a cross between durum and wild emmer wheat. QTL analysis of the adjusted traits and two‐trait analysis of the initial traits paired with either P or S considerably improved QTL detection power and accuracy, resulting in the identification of 105 QTLs and 617 QTL effects for 11 elements. Candidate gene search revealed some potential functional associations between QTLs and corresponding genes within their intervals. Thus, we have shown that accounting for variation in P and S is crucial for understanding of the physiological and genetic regulation of mineral composition of wheat grain ionome and can be implemented for other plants.  相似文献

We aimed to explore the population dynamics of snail in 3 sites of the White Nile in Sudan. More specifically, we aimed to investigate the annual patterns of snail populations that act as intermediate hosts of schistosomes and monthly snail infection rates and ecological characteristics presumably related to snail populations. We collected snails for 1 year monthly at 3 different shore sites in the vicinity of El Shajara along the White Nile river in Khartoum State, Sudan. In addition, we measured air and water temperatures, water turbidities, vegetation coverages, and water depths and current speeds. Most of the collected snails were Biomphalaria pfeifferi and Bulinus truncatus. The population densities of snails and their infection rates varied across survey sites. The collected snails liberated S. mansoni and S. haematobium cercariae as well as Amphistome and Echinostome cercariae. Infected snails were found during March–June. The ecological characteristics found to be associated with the absence of snails population were: high turbidity, deep water, low vegetation coverage (near absence of vegetation), high water temperature, and high current speed. To our knowledge, this is the first longitudinal study of the snail population and ecological characteristics in the main basin of the White Nile river.  相似文献

For dosimetric measurements using an implantable optical fiber probe with GaN (Gallium Nitride) scintillator as radioluminescence (RL) transducer, a bi-channel method is proposed to reject the background contribution of the irradiated fiber segment. It is based on spectral differences between the narrow-band light emission from GaN and the large-band background from the irradiated optical fiber. Experimental validation of this method using 6 MV photon beam has shown that the remaining background contribution after subtraction is below 1.2% for square field sizes ranging from 3 cm to 20 cm. Furthermore, a compensation method for the over-response of GaN is also proposed, since GaN is not tissue equivalent. The over-response factor of GaN exhibits a linear increase with square field aperture and depends on depth from phantom surface. This behaviour is modelled to allow compensation in specific conditions. The proposed method has been evaluated and has shown a maximum deviation of 3% for a 6 MV photon beam and 1% for an 18 MV photon beam at a depth beyond the build-up region.  相似文献
